The History of Rabindra Dance

 Rabindranath Tagore was born on 7th May 1861 (25th Baisakh, 1268). He was a Bengali who excelled in almost all kinds of learning.

For example:- poet, dramatist, novelist, composer,painter, essayist,Short storyteller, singer and philosopher.

Rabindranath Tagore is considered to be the creator and vehicle of the art of education and dance. He first recreated dance practice at Visva Bharati in Santiniketan, which is said to be the beginning of modern dance.
   In earlier days our country used to consider identity judgment through tradition. Rabindranath Tagore perceived a shadow of helplessness, he saw the imperialists looking down upon our country. The development of various creativity can be seen under his initiative. Rabindranath Tagore said for this purpose –

               "The new creation, whatever its faults, is salvation at that fork in the road.

The blocked road is the rose petals

Although wrapped with

He reached us on the way

In the end, it will be in the thief's alley."

      He believed that dance is one of the mediums to express the feelings of the mind. To show dance in public means that the feelings in the dance are universally accepted. This creation of Rabindranath Tagore is known as Rabindra Nritya.

Rabindra Sangeets are a combination of ragas of various classical music, thus the creation of Rabindra Dance by the hands of Rabindranath.


● What is Rabindra dance?

Dances usually performed with Rabindra music are called Rabindra dances.

Rabindranath Tagore's creation of this
dance is a unique dance style, whose choreography is composed according to the lyrics and mood of the song.

This Rabindra dance is a type of dance where classical dance, folk dance, foreign dance is taken as per the requirements of the drama, freed from various traditional ties.

Rabindra nritya-natya is basically three nritya-natya groups:

Shyama, Chandalika and Chitrangada.

The lyrical beauty of Rabindra nritya-natya has a wonderful harmony in its lyricism.

Shyama

     The dance-drama "Shyama" features Manipuri dance as Shyama, Bharatanatyam as Vajrasena, Kathakali as Kotla and
Kathyak as Uthiya.

   It has established this dance art in a unique status.

Chandalika

   "Chandalika" dance-drama is set in the city of Sravasti, depicting the wonderful scene of Lord Buddha's disciple feeling

thirsty while visiting Bihar on a hot summer afternoon and taking water from a Chandali girl. One day,

Chitrangada

 
"Chitrangada" disguised himself as a man and went hunting with his companions. Arjuna met Chitrangada on reaching the deep forest. He challenged him to battle to show his bravery. But Arjuna ignored him.
